WEDNESDAY, JULY 5 AT 10AM
CHILDREN’S PROGRAM – OWLS OF MAINE

Learn habits and adaptations of these fascinating birds.  Identify characteristics and calls.  Three live owls will be on hand for inspections.  Presented by the Chewonki Foundation.  Program is suitable for children age 5 and older.  PROGRAM is FREE and lasts about an hour.

WEDNESDAY, JULY 12 AT 10AM
CHILDREN’S PROGRAM – FUR, FEATHERS, and FEET

An introduction to birds and mammals.  Costumes and specimens show special adaptation.  Chewonki Mallard Duck and a surprise mammal will delight young and old!  Presented by the Chewonki Foundation. Program is suitable for children age 5 and older. PROGRAM is FREE and lasts about an hour.

WEDNESDAY, JULY 19 AT 10AM
CHILDREN’S PROGRAM – SCALES and TAILS, AMAZING REPTILES

Chewonki staff will bring live reptiles to thrill and chill the young and young at heart.  Presented by the Chewonki Foundation. Program is suitable for children age 5 and older. PROGRAM is FREE and lasts about an hour.

SATURDAY, JULY 22 AT 2PM
FREE COMMUNITY CONCERT by students from the BOWDOIN INTERNATIONAL MUSIC FESTIVAL at the Orr’s Island Union Church (on Rte. 24, Harpswell Island Rd. next to the Orr’s Island Cemetery)

The Orr’s Island Library is hosting musicians from the Bowdoin International Music Festival for our second annual Community Concert.  This free concert offers an opportunity to enjoy a wonderful afternoon of music in a lovely historical venue.  The concert will be followed by a reception with refreshments and an opportunity to visit with the musicians.

WEDNESDAY, JULY 26 AT 10AM
CHILDREN’S PROGRAM -THE MAGIC of CONJURING CAROL

By popular demand Carroll Chapman returns with his blend of magic and instructional lessons about the importance of reading.  Program is suitable for children age 5 and older. PROGRAM is FREE and lasts about an hour.

AUGUST 2 – AUGUST 5:  ORR’S ISLAND LIBRARY ANNUAL BOOK SALE & FAIR

See you at Lowell’s Cove for our annual book sale, 10AM- 2 PM each day

AUGUST 2 HULA HOOP MANIA at the ANNUAL BOOK SALE & FAIR, 10 AM-2PM (Hoola Hoop & other games)

Amanda supplies the hoops or bring your own.  Activities at the Children’s Tent.  Games and events until 2 PM.

“Tourism Comes to Harpswell”

Harpswell historian Edward Phinney will talk about the emerging tourist trade in Maine and Harpswell with an emphasis on the the 19th Century.

FIRST THURSDAY PROGRAM – PAMELA WHITE

“Leadership & 2017 Perspective”

Maine native and Orr’s Island resident Pamela White is the former US Ambassador to Gambia and Haiti.  Pam will speak to the need for effective leadership in the world.  She will also offer her updated perspective on the US political scene.

FIRST THURSDAY PROGRAM – JOE MONTISANO

“Coastal Humane Society”

Executive Director and Orr’s Island resident, Joe Montisano will review the successes of CHS during its 65 year history of service to numerous midcoast communities.

THURSDAY, DECEMBER 7 AT 7 PM
FIRST THURSDAY PROGRAM – MELINDA RICHTER

“Let’s Talk and Taste Chocolate”

Melinda will review the origins of her candy company, The Island Candy Company.  Her family inspiration and legacy led her to bring an island tradition back for a new generation.  She will treat us to holiday sample.  Yum.
